Mannequin Light Stand Custom Painted in a Chequered Flag Design

From Bare Mannequin to Chequered Flag, Start to Finish

This full-size mannequin light stand was custom painted in a chequered flag design at our Stone, Staffordshire workshop, and these photos follow it from start to finish. It arrived as a plain white mannequin, was primed in yellow, and then every square was marked out by hand in a grid that follows the curves of the body, from the shoulders and chest down to the legs.

The chequered pattern was then masked and painted in stages, building the checks up across the torso, arms and head before the final black and white finish went on. Painting a pattern like this on a human form means every line has to bend with the shape so the squares still read cleanly from any angle. It is a good example of the hand masked custom painting we carry out alongside our hydro dipping work.
